Tsuut'ina - Taza Cultural Advisory Working Group

Introduction

The Cultural Advisory Working Group is a collaborative team committed to ensuring the respectful inclusion of Tsuut’ina language, traditions, and protocols in Taza Development projects. This group ensures that the permit process upholds the inclusion of Tsuut’ina language, culture, and traditions in the Taza Development.

Purpose

The Cultural Advisory Working Group plays a vital role in preserving and integrating Tsuut’ina cultural heritage within development initiatives. Representatives from Taza Development Corp provide background information on submitted cultural request forms, while the Tsuut’ina Language and Cultural portfolio contributes historical knowledge and teachings of the Tsuut’ina Nation. Elders are a key component of the group, offering wisdom and traditional knowledge to guide decision-making. Additionally, the group provides cultural training and ceremonial support, ensuring that Tsuut’ina customs and traditions are respected and upheld in all initiatives.

The group is committed to the following objectives:

· Incorporating Tsuut’ina Traditional Protocols and Language: Ensuring that cultural elements are respectfully and authentically integrated into all phases of development, from design and construction to operations.

· Developing with Cultural Identity: Creating spaces that clearly reflect Tsuut’ina heritage, so visitors and community members recognize and appreciate that they are on Tsuut’ina Nation lands.

· Fostering Inclusivity: Establishing a welcoming environment where both Tsuut’ina and non-Tsuut’ina citizens feel safe, respected, and at home.

Through collaboration, education, and cultural advocacy, the Cultural Advisory Working Group strengthens the presence of Tsuut’ina culture and language in development processes and community programs.
